As a “One Design”, the Merit 25s all start together and provide matched competition.
Spinnaker Sailing offers club members the opportunity to participate in our unique and fun one-design racing program. Racing runs year round with Wednesday evening racing during daylight savings months of April – September and weekend racing November – March. Our Merit 25 keelboats are built and rigged as a one-design fleet, meaning that all boats are virtually identical. This provides equality for all skippers and crew to compete.
Positions in any race are earned through great teamwork, well executed boat handling, attention to sail trim and good tactical decisions. The racing program offers experienced and novice sailors alike an opportunity to develop skills, learn local sailing conditions, make friends, and enjoy the camaraderie that sailboat racing builds. Members can either skipper a boat with their own crew or join an instructor led club race boat to assure safety, guidance and support.
You must be a Basic Keelboat Sailing Graduate in order to participate as crew on a skippered Spinnaker boat. Club members skippering their own boats must have graduated Basic Coastal Cruising, crewed for one season, and attended Spinnaker Sailing’s Pre-Race meeting.Â

The Wednesday Night racing program runs during the spring and summer months. This is a fun way to get out on the water, refine your sailing skills, and connect with local sailors.
The winter series racing runs 2 times per month on Saturday during the months of November through March. The winter racing series is generally held in light wind conditions providing a whole different set of challenges.
