The Fine Print

Classes

Students must attend all of their classes as scheduled. If regular class times are inconvenient, private instruction should be arranged. Makeups are possible on a space available basis as long as a student notifies the school prior to the start of their lessons. Students will be rescheduled if class minimums are not reached.

Class Cancellations

7 day notice is required for full credit or refund. If canceled less than 7 days in advance Spinnaker will allow for rescheduling on the condition that the price of the class is the same. If class price has changed, the student must pay the difference in order to re-enroll in the class. Students who give less than 48 hour notice or fail to show without notice or withdraw after a class has started will only be allowed to reschedule on a space available basis.

Refunds

Must have proof of purchase receipt. No refunds available once classes have started. Cost of books and course materials may be deducted if used by student. Refunds available only for purchases made at Spinnaker Sailing School in Redwood City.

Skippered Sails

100% refundable if cancelled 7 days prior to charter. May reschedule up to 48 hours prior to charter date.

Group Sails

Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to scheduled cruise or race for refund. Cancellations made prior to the start of the activity will be allowed to reschedule but must pay the difference in cost if prices have changed.

Club members who sign up for group sails and fail to show up to an activity/sail without notice will be charged for the activity at the non-member rate.

Chartering

100% refundable if canceled 7 days prior to charter date. May reschedule up 72 hours prior or due to bad weather without penalty. If charterer fails to notify that they will not be chartering they will not be allowed to reschedule and will be charged $25.

Vacation Trips

Participants who drop out of vacation trips that have not been cancelled by Spinnaker Sailing may sell their space to another person or couple acceptable to Spinnaker Sailing; the selling price is to be negotiated between the seller and the buyer.  Participants are otherwise liable for the deposit fee and any payments made prior to dropping out.  Spinnaker Sailing will work with participants who would like to cancel to fill their space.  All but the deposit can be refunded after the space is paid for in full.

In the event that a trip needs to be canceled due to circumstances such as travel restrictions or charter base closure, Spinnaker will postpone the trip to around the same time the following year and participants will be automatically enrolled in that subsequent trip.  Spinnaker will keep credit on file for anyone who does not want or cannot go on the subsequent trip.  The credit can be used for other Spinnaker Sailing vacation trips.  A refund can only be issued when there is a sign up to fill the space and it is paid in full.

Spinnaker recommends travel and trip cancellation insurance which is available from airlines and various companies online.  Group travel insurance is also available from the Sunsail and Moorings but only if everyone on the boat chooses to take it.
