The Catalina 27 is one of the most widely produced keelboats in the world. From 1971 to 1991, the manufacturer built 6,662 of the Frank Butler-designed craft. Thousands are still sailing, a testament to the boat’s enduring design. Spinnaker owns seven. Best described as a pocket cruiser, the Catalina 27 features wheel steering, sleeping space for 5, a head and a small galley. Spinnaker’s models all have inboard diesel engines. The standard Catalina 27 has a 34 1/2-foot mast. Catalina also built a tall-rig version, with a 36-foot mast and a small bowsprit. Two of Spinnaker’s 27s have tall rigs. The Catalina 27 is a very solid, sturdy, comfortable boat that is fun and safe for sailors of all levels.
