ASA Certified Basic Keelboat Instructor
Dave began sailing at age 5 when he was tossed into an old wooden El Toro by an aunt and uncle who disliked him, with the admonition “Figure it out, little brat! And don’t come back until sundown”.
He sailed unenthusiastically for many years, until his teens, when he started dating. He then discovered the true magic of sail, and has been an enthusiastic waterman ever since. In college he sailed the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. He moved to the bay area in 1985 and started sailing a Santana out of Berkeley.
Dave is an avid racer. He is a two-time winner of the highly competitive internationally recognized and prestigious Spinnaker Sailing School Cheeseburger in Paradise Regatta, held annually during the fall in South Bay. Since 2002 he has twice won a Sequoia Yacht Club Wednesday Night Beer-can race.
Dave has been teaching BKS at Spinnaker Sailing since 2007. He has prior teaching experience with the Menlo Park Adult Literacy Project, JobTrain in Menlo Park, Heald Business College, and Computer Learning Center. He supports the sailing habit working as a Salesforce Administrator. He and his wife My Trung live in Redwood City, near the marina, and grow flowers and vegetables in the back yard.
When not working Dave can be seen hydroplaning at warp speed up and down Redwood Creek in his navy blue Santana, named Rhapsody.
