The
Boats
The boats are
40 foot Jenneau yachts. These boats have space for up to 5 people with plenty
of space in the main saloon. We are limiting the number of people in each
boat for the most comfort afloat by not requesting single people share their
cabins.
Dining
Dining out in Greece is a major part of the whole experience. Unlike
our other cruises, where boats are stocked with extensive provisions, we'll
be taking most meals ashore in the numerous tavernas located at every port.
Good places to eat are plentiful in Greek harbors.
Bareboat Charter Certification
Certification is available to Basic Coastal Cruising graduates. The
cost is $185.00 extra for text book, certification fee and instruction. Bareboat
charter graduates can do their own bareboat cruising in Europe or other locations
around the world.
The Text, Cruising Fundamentals, should be obtained as soon as possible to
allow enough study time. The written test can be taken at Spinnaker Sailing
in Redwood City before the cruise. On the water requirements will be
met during the cruise in Greece.
Students who want to obtain Bareboat Charter Certification must charter at
the Basic Coastal Cruising level at least three times before the cruise.
Cruise Meeting - July 21, 1998
Sailors on this cruise will meet Wednesday evening, July 21 to get to know
each other, make sure boat assignments are to everyone's liking and see slides
from the last cruise to Greece in 1998. We may also do the beverage
orders this time. Weather
Weather in the Mediterranean in general and in Greece specifically is
comparable to weather in California. The strong summer winds (up to
35 kts.) come from the northeast and are called Meltemi. The Meltemi
tend to mellow out in September just like the strong northwesterlies
in San Francisco. This makes September an ideal time for enjoying life in
the islands and on the sea.
September also is also
a less crowded time since the Europeans customarily vacation in July and August
and go back to work in September.
Price
$1995/ per person for couples sharing a double cabin or single sleeping in
the main salon.
$2195 per single in private cabin.
Boats and 3 nights hotel are included. Airfare is not but we can help you
get your flights and arrange a connection schedule.
Payment Schedule:
$100 non refundable deposit due upon reservation.
$800 due March 1, 2007.
$800 due May 1, 2007.
Balance due July 1, 2007.

Itinerary
September 5 - 16, 2007 (7 Days charter time)
Depart September 5:Depart SFO
wednesday afternoon and Arrive at Athens late in the afternoon after
connecting in London unless our flight plans are different.
Day 1:
Taxi from the Airport to The Herodian Hotel in Athens. The Herodian
is right in the middle of the old part of Athens within walking distance to
the Acropollis and the Plaka district which is where there are hundreds of
shops along little winding streets paved with marble.
Day 2:
Visit the Parthenon at the Acropolis in the morning. Have lunch at a sidewalk
taverna and check out the shops in the Plaka.
Day 3:
Take a little extra time to revisit the Plaka or perhaps the National Museum
or go on a bus tour to any of the sites just out of town such as The Temple
of Poseidon. We'll check out of the hotel and taxi to the harbor for an afternoon
charter start.
Day 4:
Sail to Aegina. The temple of Apollo is a stones throw from the harbor. At
the top of the island is the Temple of Aphia which is one of the best preserved
of the ancient temples in Greece.
Day 5:
Sail to Hydra. Many local people come by ferry to sit out at the broad sidewalk
tavernas. The town is also known for its many beautiful hand carved doors.
Day 6:
The Island of Spetsai has two harbors. Unlike most others the one at the far
end (from Hydra) is an open anchorage surrounded by groves of pine trees.
Day 7:
Back to Hydra. There can be quite a party atmosphere at the quay where all
the boats are backed in for mediterranean style mooring.
Day 8:
Poros has a post card pretty harbor..
Day 9:
Return boats to Athens Friday afternoon to be ready for a morning release.
Day 10:
After checking in the boats we'll taxi to the hotel (one nearer the harbor
and airport) and check in. The rest of the afternoon and evening is open to
great shopping and sightseeing.
Day 11:
A morning departure from Athens will get us back to San Francisco late in
the afternoon.

Ithaca offers beautiful harbors and anchorages, from Kioni with its enchanting bay and choice of tavernas to Vathi with its impressive harbor entrance.
The fun begins with an extra two
days in Athens to recover from our flights and experience the sights, sounds
and tastes of this truly classic sity. Cour hotel is situated in the shadow
of Acropolis Hill in central Athens where we'll be in walking distance from
the Parthenon and the Plaka which is the ancient shopping district.

Called the wellspring of civilization and the crown jewel of the Mediterranean, Greece is the perfect spot to begin a sailing adventure that continues the tradition of thousands of years of sailing in the Aegean.
Athens - Aegina - Poros - Hydra - Spetsai
From the Moorings base at Kalamiki Marina we'll sail west through the Saronic
Gulf to Peloponnesia. Stops will include Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetsai.
There are wonderful tavernas in every harbor, ruins to explore and
sailing in waters who's sailing history goes back for millennia. After cruising,
we'll have another day in Athens before flying home.
