 Sailing in Redwood City

Our Redwood City location provides a great combination of conditions for learning to sail. Warm weather, smooth seas and consistent winds make it an ideal place for learning to sail. Spinnaker Sailing is located at the Port of Redwood City marina making it a convenient location for those on the Peninsula, South Bay, and East Bay.


 

AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED TRAINING CENTER!

Spinnaker Sailing is an American Sailing Association (ASA) certified training facility. Our affiliation with the American Sailing Association dates back to 1983 when the ASA was originally established in the United States. :

The ASA is an organization that sets the standard for sailing instruction and certification. ASA certifications provide students the credentials associated with successfully completing the various levels of sail training. ASA certifications are recognized worldwide.

From San Francisco:

Get on 101 South. Take the Seaport Blvd Exit and stay to the left, going over Woodside road and winding around under 101 and going towards the bay. About a mile down the road you will see the marina on the left side and there will be a traffic light there, at Seaport Ct. Make a left at the light and keep left near the boats. Look for the building above.

From San Jose:

Take 85 to 101 north. Take the Woodside Road/Seaport Blvd exit and stay to the right (Seaport Blvd) about a mile down the road you will see the marina on the left side and there will be a traffic light there, at Seaport Ct. Make a left at the light and keep left near the boats. Look for the building above.

From Fremont:

Take 84 over the Dumbarton Bridge and keep going straight, past Marsh rd and along the frontage rd. Make a right at Seaport Blvd. About a mile down the road you will see the marina on the left side and there will be a traffic light there, at Seaport Ct. Make a left at the light and keep left near the boats. Look for the building above.

(The Chief):

Rich Ferrari is the founding owner of Spinnaker Sailing. Rich began teaching sailing in 1977 for a Community College sailing program. In 1980 he started Spinnaker Sailing with 2 other friends. Rich has been managing the Sailing School and Club for over 30 years. He is also currently owner manager of the Seaport Conference Center and Harbormaster for both the Port of Redwood City Marina, and the Redwood Landing Marina.

Our Head Instructor Bob Diamond is a 100-ton Coast Guard licensed captain as well as an ASA instructor evaluator, and ASA school evaluator. Bob is a regular contributor to the ASA curriculum committee, upgrading and improving sailing texts and standards. He is one of the contributing authors of the new ASA text, "Sailing Made Easy. Bob is also the sailing vacations director involved in organizing and running all of Spinnaker overseas charter vacations. Bob has been leading trips to all parts of the world for over 25 years.

Mike Quinn began working at Spinnaker Sailing in 1996 and oversees the day to day office operations of the school, including class scheduling, boat reservations and instructor communications. He also keeps the website current and publishes the monthly newsletter.

Steve Stanley is our weekday sailing instructor and kids camp leader. Steve has been teaching sailing here at Spinnaker Sailing since 1995. He is an ASA certified Bareboat Charter instructor US Coast Guard Captain. You may also catch Steve playing trumpet with a few well known Bay Area Bands.
